Need/Application: A coal furnace is a critical part of the steel production process at this Steel Mill. In order to increase the efficiency of the furnace, the coal is washed prior to burning. The wastewater from this coalwashing process is highly contaminated with coal dust - at a level of about 2,000 - 4,000 PPM. This water is cannot be "dumped" and is too contaminated to be recycled. Traditional treatment for coalwashing uses a high dose of chemicals such as aluminum sulfate or ferric chloride thereby contaminating the water with additional chemicals. |

Solution: We installed a chemical-free electro-coagulation wastewater treatment system. The system uses an electrolyzing process with sedimentation and fine, deep filtration.
Results: 98% of the wastewater is now crystal clear and purified to the level of 0.1 NTU. The water is recycled and the treatment system easily maintained.

Need/Application: During the hot casting of the metal, the metal sheets must be cooled with a great deal of water. This water is recycled via cooling towers and re-used in the casting process.
However, the water must be treated to eliminate the pieces of metal and other impurities which contaminate the water during the cooling process. These particles if left in the water will create "spots" on the hot metal sheets and reduce the efficiency of the cooling tower.

Results: An increase of 64% in production quality and savings of hundreds of maintenance work days when compared with the situation before the new system was installed.
